Joshua Fireman

President

Joshua is Fireman & Company’s founder and president. He has practiced law with two of North America’s largest law firms, and was in-house counsel at a multi-billion dollar multinational corporation. Joshua is recognized as one of the leading experts in law firm strategic consulting, and is a recognized thought leader in areas such as knowledge management and change management.

With a decade of consulting experience, Joshua has advised clients on the development of firm strategies, knowledge management, change management and client collaboration strategies. He has led complex engagements executing strategic plans, including the implementation and integration of portals, enterprise search, file, document and email management, and records management. He is a frequent speaker at law firm retreats and industry conferences.

Joshua earned his BCL and LLB degrees from the McGill University Faculty of Law. He has also studied economics at the Université de Montréal.

Eben works with law firms to improve their Knowledge Management, Enterprise Search, Portals, Processes, and Project Management. As a VP of Consulting for Fireman & Company, Eben leads large projects to success based on a systematic approach that covers defining requirements, designing a solution, planning deployment, and providing on-going support. An integral part of this approach is helping firms evaluate and select commercial software; he then works with the firm and vendor to optimize the software deployment to meet firm-specific needs. His support has helped client law firms win recognition, for example, from ILTA, for legal technology projects.

Eben has worked with large law firms since 2010. Previously, he was an executive at Accenture, helping clients develop and implement complex technology solutions in financial services, transportation logistics, and government for over 12 years. Eben also has experience in implementing enterprise architecture, application rationalization, and setting up enterprise IT governance. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS in Engineering and a BS in Economics.

James is a principal at Fireman & Company. He has acted as a consultant and project manager for a number of North America’s largest law firms. James was a member of the Library and Knowledge Management group at one of Canada’s largest law firms, and has been immersed in the legal industry segment for almost two decades. Working with both clients and vendors, he has led the development and deployment of enterprise wide knowledge management, search, library and document management initiatives.

Ron Friedmann

Ron Friedmann has spent over two decades improving law practice and legal business operations with technology, knowledge management, and alternative resourcing.

Ron was one of the first non-practicing lawyers hired by a large law firm, Wilmer, Culter & Pickering (now WilmerHale) to manage practice support. He pioneered legal process improvement, knowledge management, electronic discovery, virtual law libraries, law firm portals, and online legal services.

Most recently, he was a senior executive at Integreon, a leading legal outsourcing company, where he advised large US, Canadian, UK, and Australian law firms and corporate law departments on how to improve practice support and business operations while reducing cost.

Prior to joining Integreon, Mr. Friedmann founded and operated Prism Legal Consulting, Inc., a firm that assisted law firms and law departments with practice technology and legal market vendors with marketing.

Other positions Ron has held include CIO at Mintz Levin, an executive at two legal software companies, a strategy consultant at Bain & Company, and an econometrician at Data Resources, Inc.

Ron is well-known in the legal market: he speaks frequently at professional conferences, regularly publishes articles, blogs at Strategic Legal Technology, and Tweets @ronfriedmann.

He has a JD from NYU School of Law (’86) and BA in Economics from Oberlin College (’79). He is a Fellow and former trustee of the College of Law Practice Management; member, Board of Governors, Organization of Legal Professionals; member, Legal Market Advisory Board, Box.com; organizer of the DC Large Law Firm KM Group.

Richard Chang brings a deep level of expertise and experience to enterprise search analysis and implementations drawn from his extensive hands-on work with law firm clients and vendor technical teams. He is known for his attention to detail and ability to execute and troubleshoot search implementations. Richard started his career in software development after going to University of Toronto’s computer science program. Since then, he has worked with major clients in the financial and legal industries in the US and Canada on projects of increasing complexity and organizational reach.

She earned two BA degrees from the University of California San Diego in Computer Science Engineering and English American Literature.

Carolyn loves data. She is happiest when writing complicated queries, and she is a Microsoft Certified Database Administrator as well as a Cloudera Certified Developer for Hadoop. She has many years experience working in technology for law firms and comes from a family of lawyers, so she understands the necessity of being thorough and accurate when dealing with the legal system. She has been working as a software consultant for over 15 years and is deeply committed to providing value to her customers. She has a masters in information systems from UC Berkeley and an undergraduate degree in Egyptology from the University of Chicago, so she can also translate hieroglyphs if need be, and also speaks conversational French. And she is College Jeopardy! champion 1999 and would like to thank Alex Trebek for giving her a really nice car.
